Fairness Auditing — The Four Views

The four views
| View | When to use |
|---|---|
| Pre-Roster | Run before publishing — see fairness of the upcoming roster while you can still tweak |
| Post-Roster | Run after — confirm what shipped is fair |
| Compare | Pre vs Post — see the impact of last-minute changes (swaps, sick cover) on fairness |
| Historical | 6–12 month trends per staff — for performance reviews, defending decisions, or detecting drift |
The Recommendations panel
The dashboard surfaces specific recommendations:
🔴 RN Jones — 65% weekend ratio (org avg 40%)
Recommendation: redistribute 2 weekend shifts in next fortnight
[Apply Recommendation] — IRIS suggests swap candidates
Click Apply Recommendation and IRIS proposes specific swaps you can approve. You stay in control — IRIS doesn't action anything without your sign-off.
Tips & common mistakes
- Fairness ≠ Equality. A staff member who prefers nights and works 50% nights is fair if it matches their preference.
- Run Pre-Roster before publishing, not after. After-the-fact is harder to fix.
- Tune Craft Group fairness defaults if your whole RN cohort consistently runs hot — change the target, not the data.
- Historical view is your friend at performance review time — show, don't tell.
