Understanding Leave Blackout Periods

Leave Blackout Periods

Some organizations set blackout periods when leave is restricted (e.g., during peak times, Christmas period, or major events).

What happens during a blackout:

  • You can still submit a leave request, but it may be flagged or auto-declined
  • The roster builder sees a warning that the dates fall in a blackout period
  • Approval is at the roster builder's discretion

How to check for blackouts:

  • Check the Leave Calendar – blackout dates may be highlighted
  • Ask your roster builder about upcoming restricted periods
  • Ask IRIS: "Are there any leave blackout periods coming up?"
