Detailed Availability Guide

What is availability? Your availability tells roster builders when you can, prefer to, or cannot work. It's a preference system – not a guarantee.

Types:

  • Available – You can work. The roster builder may or may not assign you.
  • Preferred – You'd like to work this day/time. The AI gives these priority when generating rosters.
  • Unavailable – You prefer not to work. The roster builder can see this but may override it for coverage needs.

Setting partial-day availability:

  1. Click a date in My Availability
  2. Instead of "All day", select specific time ranges
  3. Example: Available 06:00-14:00 only (mornings)

Recurring patterns:

  • Currently, availability is set per date
  • Set your availability in advance for the period (e.g., the next 4 weeks)
  • Check back regularly to keep it up to date

Important distinctions:

  • Availability = preference (can be overridden)
  • Leave = formal time off (blocks rostering when approved)
  • If you absolutely cannot work a day, request leave rather than setting unavailable

Does the roster builder see my availability? Yes – roster builders can see everyone's availability when making assignments and the AI uses it for roster generation.

Is my availability visible to other staff? No – only roster builders and admins can see your availability settings.
