Detailed Availability Guide
What is availability? Your availability tells roster builders when you can, prefer to, or cannot work. It's a preference system – not a guarantee.
Types:
- Available – You can work. The roster builder may or may not assign you.
- Preferred – You'd like to work this day/time. The AI gives these priority when generating rosters.
- Unavailable – You prefer not to work. The roster builder can see this but may override it for coverage needs.
Setting partial-day availability:
- Click a date in My Availability
- Instead of "All day", select specific time ranges
- Example: Available 06:00-14:00 only (mornings)
Recurring patterns:
- Currently, availability is set per date
- Set your availability in advance for the period (e.g., the next 4 weeks)
- Check back regularly to keep it up to date
Important distinctions:
- Availability = preference (can be overridden)
- Leave = formal time off (blocks rostering when approved)
- If you absolutely cannot work a day, request leave rather than setting unavailable
Does the roster builder see my availability? Yes – roster builders can see everyone's availability when making assignments and the AI uses it for roster generation.
Is my availability visible to other staff? No – only roster builders and admins can see your availability settings.
