The Availability Suggestions Panel — System Hints to Improve Your Setup
The Availability Suggestions Panel
When you open My Availability, a side panel called Suggestions offers system-generated hints to improve your setup. It's not asking you to do anything — it's pointing out where you've left gaps that may cost you preferred shifts.
Where to find it
Sidebar → My Availability. The Suggestions panel appears on the right side of the page (collapsible).
What it suggests
| Suggestion type | Example | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Empty week ahead | "You have no availability set for the week of 12 May" | Without availability, you'll be assumed Unavailable and won't get matched to anything |
| Overlap with declared leave | "Your availability on 20 May overlaps with approved leave" | Confusing for the roster builder; clean it up |
| Tight match | "You're available 4 h on Tuesday — that's below the typical 8 h shift" | The slot may not match any actual shift pattern |
| Pattern hole | "You set Mon/Wed/Fri but no Tuesday — is that intentional?" | A common typo trap |
How to act on a suggestion
- Click the suggestion → it jumps you to the relevant date in the calendar.
- Edit the block (or add a new one) as you would normally.
- Once fixed, the suggestion disappears from the panel.
Tips
- Not every suggestion needs action. A pattern hole on Tuesday may be deliberate — the panel doesn't know your life.
- The panel updates live as you make changes. Watch the count drop as you tidy up.
- A panel with 0 suggestions doesn't mean your availability is "right" — it just means you have no obvious gaps.
