Rest Periods and Compliance Checks
Rest Periods and Compliance
Key rostering rules (varies by organization):
- Minimum rest period – typically 8-10 hours between consecutive shifts
- Fortnight hours band – your contracted minimum and maximum hours over a 14-day cycle (e.g. 64–80 h for full-time). Tracked across the whole fortnight, not week-by-week
- Maximum consecutive days – typically 6-7 days in a row
- Night shift limits – restrictions on consecutive night shifts
You can ask IRIS:
- "Have I had enough rest between my shifts?"
- "Am I over my fortnight max hours?"
- "Am I under my fortnight min hours?"
- "How many consecutive days have I worked?"
- "Do I have any rule violations on my schedule?"
If you spot a compliance issue:
- Contact your roster builder immediately
- The system should catch most issues, but it's good to double-check
- Rest and fatigue management is critical for healthcare safety
Note: The exact rules depend on your organization's settings, enterprise agreements, and local regulations.
