Understanding Rostering Concepts

Rostering Concepts Explained

Craft Group = Your job role

  • Examples: RN (Registered Nurse), EN (Enrolled Nurse), Doctor, EP (Emergency Physician)
  • Determines which shifts you're eligible for
  • You must be in the same craft group to swap shifts with someone

Stream = Department or work area

  • Examples: Emergency, ICU, Red Stream, Blue Stream
  • Each stream has its own shift patterns and staffing requirements
  • You may be assigned to multiple streams

Scope of Practice = Additional qualifications

  • Examples: Trauma, Paediatrics, Mental Health, Critical Care
  • Some shifts or streams require specific scopes
  • Your scopes are set by your admin

Vacancy = A shift that needs to be filled

  • Defined by how many staff of each craft group are needed per shift per day
  • The AI uses these to identify coverage gaps

Assignment = You being rostered to a specific shift on a specific date

  • Confirmed = published and visible to you
  • Draft = being worked on by the roster builder (not visible to staff)
