Understanding Rostering Concepts
Rostering Concepts Explained
Craft Group = Your job role
- Examples: RN (Registered Nurse), EN (Enrolled Nurse), Doctor, EP (Emergency Physician)
- Determines which shifts you're eligible for
- You must be in the same craft group to swap shifts with someone
Stream = Department or work area
- Examples: Emergency, ICU, Red Stream, Blue Stream
- Each stream has its own shift patterns and staffing requirements
- You may be assigned to multiple streams
Scope of Practice = Additional qualifications
- Examples: Trauma, Paediatrics, Mental Health, Critical Care
- Some shifts or streams require specific scopes
- Your scopes are set by your admin
Vacancy = A shift that needs to be filled
- Defined by how many staff of each craft group are needed per shift per day
- The AI uses these to identify coverage gaps
Assignment = You being rostered to a specific shift on a specific date
- Confirmed = published and visible to you
- Draft = being worked on by the roster builder (not visible to staff)
