Level 2: Why You're Needed — Craft Groups & Vacancies

Level 2 is where your organization defines staffing needs. This guide explains craft groups and scopes of practice—the qualifications that determine which shifts you can work.

What's a Craft Group?

A craft group is your job role or profession. Examples:

  • RN (Registered Nurse)
  • EN (Enrolled Nurse)
  • Doctor
  • Physiotherapist

Your craft group determines which shifts you're eligible for. If a shift needs "RNs only," you can only be rostered there if you're an RN.

What's a Scope of Practice?

A scope of practice is a special credential or qualification beyond your base job role. Examples:

  • Trauma
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Pediatrics

Scopes are optional. Not every shift requires a special scope—but some high-need areas prefer or require them.

How It Affects Your Roster

Your craft group + scopes determine which shifts you're eligible for:

Example 1: You're an RN with Trauma certification

  • ✅ Eligible for: All RN shifts + "RN with Trauma" shifts
  • ❌ Not eligible: EN shifts, shifts requiring other scopes (e.g., ALS)

Example 2: You're an EN with no scopes

  • ✅ Eligible for: All EN shifts
  • ❌ Not eligible: RN shifts, any shift requiring special scopes

Q: Do craft groups affect my pay?
A: That depends on your organization's payroll system. Ask your admin or HR.

Q: Can I have multiple craft groups?
A: Some staff do (e.g., RN + Consultant), but it's rare. Ask your admin if you're unsure.
