How to Add or Remove Craft Groups and Scopes Across a Whole Stream
Stream-wide Add / Remove (craft groups and scopes)
When a whole stream needs the same craft or scope change — for example adding Senior Registrar to every OR group, or removing a scope from all shifts — use the stream-header pencil on Vacancy Planning. This updates requirements only; it does not replace every slot from scratch like the shift-pattern row edit does.
Where to find it
- Go to Sidebar → Vacancy Planning (
/staffing-vacancies) - Expand the stream you want to change
- Hover the stream name row (the grey header above its shift patterns)
- Click the purple layers icon that appears — tooltip: Add or remove craft groups & scopes across all patterns in [stream] (from this week forward)
The modal title reads Edit [Stream Name] — All Future Weeks.
What you can change
- Add or Remove (one operation per apply)
- Select one or more craft groups and/or one or more scopes of practice
- Changes apply to every requirement in that stream, for every shift pattern, from the Monday of the week you are viewing onward
- Past weeks are not changed
What stays the same
- Staff counts (
requiredCount) on each slot are preserved - Craft groups and scopes you do not select are left untouched
- Staff already assigned to those shifts are never unassigned by this tool
How OR groups behave
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Add a craft to a single-craft slot | The slot becomes an OR group (existing craft + new craft) |
| Add a craft already in the OR group | No change for that row (already present) |
| Remove one craft from an OR group | The other options stay; if only one craft remains, the row collapses back to single-craft |
| Remove the only craft on a slot | That row is skipped — you cannot leave a requirement with zero craft groups. The review step reports how many were skipped |
Scope changes follow the same add/remove logic on the requirement's mandatory scope list.
Step by step
- Open the stream pencil modal
- Choose Add or Remove
- Tick the craft groups and/or scopes you want to change (Remove only lists crafts/scopes currently used in the stream)
- Click Next: Review — the preview shows affected weeks, dates, requirements changed, and any skipped rows
- Type
APPLY ALLto confirm - Click Add across all future weeks or Remove across all future weeks
After you apply — check roster quality
Changing requirements does not automatically move people off shifts. If an assigned person's craft group or scope no longer matches the updated requirement:
- The mismatch appears in The Living Roster → Roster Health under Craft Group Mismatches or Scope of Practice Mismatches
- Use the Resolve tab in Roster Health to review and remove unsafe assignments, then Fill Gaps or manually restaff
- For batch IRIS suggestions, open Resolution Plan Builder from Roster Health's Resolve flow (or the conflict-resolution action on The Living Roster when conflicts are present)
Already-published open shifts for affected dates are resynced to match the new Level 2 requirements where possible.
Stream edit vs shift-pattern row edit
| Action | Opens | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Stream header layers icon (purple) | Add / Remove modal | Adds or removes crafts/scopes on existing requirements; counts preserved |
| Shift-pattern row (blue pencil on hover) | Vacancy modal — Edit [Pattern] — All Future Weeks | Replaces all requirements on that pattern from this week forward (destructive overwrite) |
| Single cell click | Vacancy modal — day editor | Edit one or more days on that pattern only |
Use the purple layers icon on the stream header when you want to tweak who can fill slots across the whole stream. Click a shift-pattern row (blue pencil) only when you need to redefine the full requirement set for one shift pattern.
